At A Change for Better, we provide various forms of one-to-one counselling support for those who need it. Through the expertise of founder Ashley Cairns, you can get all the support that you need to help improve your life in any way that you feel it has to be worked on.
Why do I need one on one counselling support?
Because when you don’t feel great, you need to be able to talk about why. Working out the reasons personally can be a great stressor, and it’s something that we find many people struggle with greatly. In a bid to help you with that, one to one counselling offers a safe place where you can open up, investigate your problems, and find meaningful solutions to the whole problem you face.
Getting one on one counselling support when you need emotional support it is like going to see a doctor when you are sick. There will be times in life when you need someone to talk to. However, opening up to a friend or a family member might not work; they come with personal bias in your favor, which can make coming up with a positive solution for change needlessly difficult.
Instead, you can come and speak to Ashley. A Change for Better offers lasting support when you need someone to step in and make your life less challenging. Whether you need answers, support, or you just want to open up about something that has been haunting you, it’s time to open up.

Counselling the way YOU want it
When you work with A Change for Better you will be working directly with Ashley Cairns. As a specialist in the art of wellness and self-care, you’ll get all the support that you need from her. She provides face to face, text, email, and video counselling support.
What do we talk about? That’s entirely up to you. During our counselling session, the floor is yours – the whole platform is built around what you want. Based around your needs, you will talk about your situation and come up with a plan that works best for you. It could be looking at your financial situation, your intellectual depth, your emotional levels, or anything else in life that might be limiting your living quality. Rest assured; we’ll find a solution even if it seems impossible at the moment!
In times of crisis, the ability to be flexible as a counsellor allows Ashley to meet each person where they are in their journey. If at any point you would like to switch forms of counselling, simply ask!
Her approach to helping others involves using person-centered and solution focused therapy techniques. This helps her to gain a better understanding of your unique situation and help you to formulate what changes need to happen to get you where you want to go in life.

Before you commit to anything through my service, I want you to feel 100% comfortable about the opportunity in front of you. You can read more about me on-site, but I want to ensure that you have a positive feeling about the future starting from today.
A Change for Better was created out of a deficit I found in the community services sector.
I’ve had the pleasure of working in local communities for a long time now, and it’s been a genuine pride of my life to do that. However, I’ve noticed just how limited the ability for wellness in the community to be provided first-hand.
While the effort and the commitment are there from staff, funding often means having to choose one ailment and focusing on that. I found that this created what I would refer to as a black hole in the system; essentially creating places where people could go to perish without the support they need.
If they didn’t fit the most specific of outlines, they would be deemed ineligible or they would be given partial treatment when they needed so much more. Having watched friends, family, and colleagues taken to breaking point through the emotional toll such work and such limits place on them, I decided it was time to do more.
Breaking the Mold
Working in the non-profit community, my ability then to help people through a crisis or situation is limited. Poverty, food insecurity, social skills, nutrition, exercise, and intellectual stimulation were seen as factors contributing to mental health concerns. However, due to lack of funding, poor range of funding options, and time, these factors are not being treated. That’s why I looked to make a progressive change and try to offer people the opportunity that cannot be provided elsewhere. I hope you find this site helpful on your path to wellness!
